Flying cars, also known as electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) vehicles, are different from planes and helicopters in that they don't need a runway or a designated takeoff and landing area. Most eVTOL aircraft in development have a substantially shorter range and lower speed than a traditional commercial airliner since they are designed to offer quick door-to-door transportation in urban areas.
