Best Selling Single of Bing Crosby

Bing Crosby

Bing Crosby was multi-talented - he could sing, dance, and act. Despite releasing around 400 chart-topping songs, he is most remembered for his best-selling single "White Christmas," which was featured in the 1954 film with the same title.

"White Christmas" was written by Irving Berling and was first featured in the 1942 musical movie Holiday Inn. Crosby performed the first public performance of the song on Christmas day in 1941 - several weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor - on the NBC radio show The Kraft Music Hall.

Since then, numerous artists have covered the song, but Crosby's version was the most successful with an estimated 50 million copies sold. When coupled with other versions, sales for "White Christmas" exceed 100 million.

The song spent 11 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts in 1942. It also topped the charts again the next year and was featured as the number one song on the Harlem Hit Parade for three weeks.
